  • Summer Festival – Uchal (August 20 – August 22, 2025)
  • Winter Festival – Choimus (December 15 – December 22, 2025)

Spring Festival – Chilam Joshi

Also known as the Milk Festival, the Chilam Joshi Festival marks the arrival of spring. Celebrated for four days across all Kalash valleys, it begins with a ritual known as Milk Day, where households store milk for 10 days before the festival.

  • Kalasha people perform rituals to seek blessings for a prosperous agricultural year and healthy livestock.
  • Men and women participate in traditional dances, where they choose their life partners.
  • Women wear colorful embroidered dresses with floral patterns, accessorized with beaded necklaces and headgear.
  • Men dress in traditional Shalwar Kameez paired with woolen waistcoats.

Summer Festival – Uchal

The Uchal Festival marks the beginning of the harvest season and is among the most popular Kalash festivals. Tourists from around the world visit to witness this vibrant cultural event.

  • The Kalasha people express gratitude for a bountiful harvest by offering prayers and engaging in grand celebrations.
  • A procession to Balangkuru, a high plateau outside the village, is held to perform prayers.
  • The night-long festivities, filled with traditional music, dance, and local wine, last until early morning.

Winter Festival – Choimus

Known as the Choimus Festival, this winter event predicts the prosperity of the village and its people for the coming year.

  • People hunt foxes, which are considered omens of good luck.
  • Torch-lit processions from nearby villages gather at Charsue, the central dance venue.
  • The festival is celebrated indoors, with traditional wine and bonfires as part of the rituals.
  • Tribal elders observe the sunrise on a hilltop, followed by goat sacrifices to the goddess Jastak.
